Lord Lisvane KCB DL  

As Sir Robert Rogers, he was Clerk of the House of Commons and Chief Executive 2011-14, after a career in the House Service. On retirement he received a peerage and, as an independent, sits on the Cross Benches, specialising in constitutional and governance matters. He has been a member of the Delegated Powers Select Committee and of the Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee. He is a member of the Ecclesiastical Committee and now chairs the Lords Special Inquiry Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Weapon Systems. He has carried out a number of governance reviews, most recently of the Corporation of London.  

Robert is the joint author of How Parliament Works, now in its 8th edition, and is the author of two Parliamentary miscellanies: Order! Order! and Who Goes Home? He is an honorary Fellow of Lincoln College, Oxford, an honorary Bencher of the Middle Temple, Chairman of the Royal College of Organists, and a Trustee of the VOCES8 Foundation.  

He was Master of the Skinners’ Company, one of the Great Twelve Livery Companies of the City of London, 2018-19, and now chairs its charitable foundation. He is Chairman of the Fabric Advisory Committee of Hereford Cathedral, and a past Chairman of its Perpetual Trust. He is a Deputy Lieutenant for Herefordshire.  

He has chaired standards and ethics committees of a county council, a police authority and a fire and rescue authority, and has been an independent member of the Local Government Association.  

His pastimes are music (he is a singer and church organist), cricket (these days as a spectator), shooting, sailing and the countryside.  

He is married to Jane, the Revd Lady Lisvane, who is Rural Dean of Abbeydore and was High Sheriff of Herefordshire 2017-18.
